Devices and streams are different limits
Installing a player app on a device claims no capacity β a Fire TV Stick switched off costs a provider nothing. A well-run service lets you install on every screen you own and only counts how many are actively playing at the same moment. That concurrent number is the real limit worth comparing between providers.
Marketing in this category doesn't always keep the two apart, and the blur is sometimes deliberate β "works on all your devices" can describe a service that allows exactly one stream at a time. Ask any provider for the simultaneous number specifically, and get it in writing.
Marinios's limits, plan by plan
Every Marinios plan β 1, 3, 6 or 12 months β can be bought for 1, 2, 3 or 4 devices, and the device count you pick is the number of simultaneous streams. You can register an unlimited number of devices to the account; the limit applies only to how many play at once.
Multi-device tiers are discounted per device rather than sold as stacked full-price subscriptions: 2 devices cost 20% less than two single plans, 3 devices 25% less, 4 devices 30% less. Because every tier's price derives from the same base rate, the discount can't quietly drift from what the pricing page shows.
How the rest of the market handles it
Mainstream bundles cluster tightly: YouTube TV allows 3 concurrent streams, Hulu + Live TV allows 2, and cable still largely prices per television through equipment rental β the old per-box model in a new bill. On-demand apps like Netflix tie stream count to subscription tier, which is the same idea under a different label.
Unlicensed resellers are the outlier in the other direction: the default is often a single "connection," with each additional one sold separately per device. A family of four can quietly end up paying multiples of the advertised price, which is worth remembering whenever an advertised rate looks too good.
Why stream limits exist at all
Three structural reasons. Rights agreements price distribution by audience, so a subscription serving unlimited simultaneous viewers would need to be priced like a venue, not a household. Server capacity is provisioned for the 9pm peak, and concurrent streams are exactly what that peak is made of. And without a cap, one paid account would quietly serve an entire building.
A published, honest stream limit is a mildly good sign β it means the provider is doing real capacity planning. The red flag isn't a limit existing; it's a limit that only becomes visible after you've paid.
How many streams does a household actually need?
Count the moments, not the people. A couple rarely exceeds 2 simultaneous streams. A family with kids typically peaks at 3 β the main TV plus a bedroom and a tablet during the same evening hour. Two sports fans following different games while a third screen runs elsewhere is the realistic case for 4.
Registered devices are a separate count entirely, and with unlimited installs it never constrains you β install on everything, including a phone you travel with, and let the concurrent limit be the only number you actively manage.
The bandwidth side of the same question
Your internet connection sets its own limit before any provider does. Budget 10 Mbps sustained per 1080p stream and 25 Mbps per 4K stream, with headroom for everything else the household is doing at the same moment β three 1080p streams want a 50 Mbps connection, comfortably.
Concurrency also amplifies Wi-Fi congestion β three streams over one busy 2.4 GHz band will all stutter together. Put the main television on Ethernet or 5 GHz so the streams stop competing for the same air.
